Building a University-Scale Media Program

Building a University-Scale Media Program

At the University of Central Florida, I led video, photo, and multimedia strategy for a Tier 1 public research university serving more than 70,000 students and a global alumni base. Much of this work operated in the public interest, where accuracy, stewardship, and long term trust mattered as much as creative execution.

I was the first full time hire dedicated to photo and video, brought in to professionalize and scale the university’s visual media capabilities. I built the program from the ground up, growing a loose network of student, on call photographers into an award winning team of full time photo and video professionals. Under my leadership, the team became the primary source for all university photography and video, producing assets used across the institutional website, admissions materials, social media, alumni publications, billboards, print mailers, web advertising, and executive communications.

Translating Research and Expertise

Translating Research and Expertise

A core focus of my role was translating academic work from subject matter experts across science, arts, and humanities into clear, accurate, and approachable storytelling for a wide range of audiences.

A core focus of my role was translating academic work from subject matter experts across science, arts, and humanities into clear, accurate, and approachable storytelling for a wide range of audiences.

This included producing research-driven content featuring both leading faculty, such as Peter Delfyett, a member of the National Academy of Engineering in UCF’s College of Optics and Photonics, and distinguished alumni like Darin Edwards, who led Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine team. Across these projects, the work translated advanced scientific achievement into accessible, real-world context during periods of intense public and global scrutiny.

In parallel, I led deeply sensitive narrative work such as The Ocoee Massacre: The Truth Laid Bare, where historical accuracy, ethical responsibility, and trust were as important as craft. Across these projects, my role was less about simplification and more about stewardship, ensuring expertise was represented honestly while remaining accessible to non-specialist audiences.

Shaping Campus Identity

Shaping Campus Identity

Alongside academic and research storytelling, I led production for content that defined UCF’s public identity, including campus life, athletics, admissions, and executive communications. My team and I covered the student experience, major athletic moments, and leadership initiatives that shaped how the university presented itself to prospective students, alumni, and the broader public.

I also led end-to-end production on institutional pieces such as It's Coming Back Home and the "Swan City" by Shawn Welcome project, shaping narrative, visual language, and delivery across platforms. These projects balanced emotional resonance with brand consistency and served as anchor pieces for broader campaigns across web, social, and promotional channels.

Leading Teams, Systems, and Creative Operations

Leading Teams, Systems, and Creative Operations

Beyond production, I managed, curated, and optimized the university’s digital asset management system, organizing and delivering photo and video assets spanning the institution’s history back to its founding in 1963. This work improved discoverability, consistency, and access for internal stakeholders and external partners, and helped ensure media functioned as a reliable institutional resource rather than an ad hoc service.

Across all of this work, I operated at the intersection of creative judgment, operational rigor, and institutional trust, ensuring quality held under pressure and media scaled responsibly inside a complex organization.
